Tropical-Hideaway-710x575 In this workshop, I will show you a simple method of painting which is an easy to follow series of steps to start and finish a landscape painting in acrylic.

It will give you a very clear foundation and fundamental principles to follow and easily implement in your future paintings

You can see a short demonstration HERE

The big problem for beginners and intermediate artists is…

Figuring out what to do and how to do it to achieve a painting you feel good about is almost impossible for beginners.

There are too many unanswered questions for beginners.

What Medium to use? Oils, Pencils, Acrylics, Watercolour, and what’s the difference?

Which Colours to use and how to mix them to get the colour you want?

How does composition work?

How to get different tones and values?

What brushes do you use and when do you use them, what effect do they have?

And what do you paint on? Canvas, Panels or Paper?

What are mediums, glazes and solvents and do you need them?

And what on earth will you paint?

No wonder beginners quickly become confused and overwhelmed and often times give up altogether

What I’ve observed the most is the beginner to intermediate artists were over complicating the painting process, hoping it will turn out alright and if not they weren’t enjoying it and not getting satisfactory results.

So this workshop is all about simplifying everything, making it easy so you can get great results and leave a workshop with a painting you are proud of. I take you step by step to complete the painting above, breaking it down in easy to follow steps using 3 basic steps.

  • 3 Colours ● 3 Brushes ● 3 Materials

By using this method and reducing the number of colours and brushes and showing you how to use them, you will get great results, feel less confused and much more confident and happy with your paintings, knowing exactly how you achieved it!

Come and see for yourself and I guarantee you will surprise yourself!

The day will include all your materials, paints, brushes and canvas, refreshments and a light lunch!

Mandala and Zentangle Workshop

  • Sunday 21st May 10.30 – 2.00pm
  • Location – Mijas Art Centre
  • Fee – €25

Creating Zentangles and Mandalas is a simple process and a shortcut to relaxation and inner focus. It is a superior form of doodling, as it cultivates moment to moment awareness, similar to that of mindfulness, or active meditation

The repetitive creative work involved in both Zentangles and Manadals is both calming and relaxing. This is heightened even further, when you consider this process is non judgemental. By this I mean, other than enjoying putting pen to paper and being open to whatever emerges, no other outcome is expected. If we get caught up in judgement and deliberation, then we’re not in the here and now. Simply enjoying the creative process, we’re able to enjoy every moment of it. Another reason I like to encourage

Zentangle and Mandala art, is the simplicity of it. You only need paper, a black pen, and if you want to add colour some coloured crayons or felt tips, the best bit of all, you can do it practically anywhere! Using a black pen, teaches you how to incorporate mistakes (or what seem to be mistakes) into the design. Consider this a metaphor for our daily lives; nothing is perfect. What really matters is how we adjust to mistakes or the unexpected in life.

This workshop will set you on the wonderful journey of creating beautiful Zentangle and Manadal Art

Medium: Acrylic

Using acrylic paints, and drawing materials to explore a visual world beyond the usual design principles and concerns of composition. Let go of Rules and Expectations and discover what is unique about you as an artist. If you’ve ever tried this, you’ll know that it is SO much more easily said than done. How do you silence the voices that tell you that you have to Get It Right? If you paint without concern for colour theory or accurate representation will you just make a mess? In this workshop we’ll take a broader view of composition, and you will gain the tools to create in a more personal voice.                                                                          We’ll begin with an underlying structure so that you can create variations on a theme; then we’ll move to a broader kind of visual improvisation where you get to compose-as-you-go in every aspect of the painting.

Supplies to bring – Canvas (Available from most Chinese stores)
